The Leopard 46 has the genes of a racer. It's built in South Africa by Robertson and Caine and was designed by Gino Morelli and Pete Melvin, who drew the record-breaking maxi-catamaran PlayStation. But make no mistake-this 46-footer's also designed to cruise in comfort.
The Leopard 46 is a striking boat, from the first glimpse of the high, almost-plumb bows to the streamlined, louvered house and the rakish transoms. The hulls are narrow at the waterline-skinny is faster than wide-and have a very fine entry, then flare sharply to a chine just above the water for good interior volume and reserve buoyancy for sailing in a seaway.
The slippery hulls and tall sail plan provide boat speed almost equal to the wind speed at a time when most cruisers would have the engines going in those conditions. Cracked off the breeze the Leopard 46 makes fast passages easily.
The Leopard 46 is widely renowned as what may be the most robust and enduring model to come out of the Robertson and Caine yard. The hulls are of GRP construction with balsa core for strength, stiffness and insulation using high quality materials.

This well-maintained and equipped example has demonstrated its capabilities as both an ocean passage maker and a coastal and island cruiser. Last cruising season it took its owners on a Pacific circuit from New Zealand to the warm waters of Fiji and New Caledonia before returning to New Zealand where it had been cruising for the previous two years. Saltheart 2 is equipped with extras like an Iridium Go satellite comms system, and RescueMe PLBs and MOB devices to provide extra peace of mind on the water.

AccomodationSaltheart 2 was built with four cabins, the current owners had the port forward cabin professionally converted to an owner's dressing and storage cabin with two full-length wardrobes, a drawer and dressing table unit and easy access to the fore peak berth/storage area (see photos). The port aft sleeping cabin was adjusted to provide full no-crawl access on one side of the berth. The bed has a custom-made innerspring mattress (2020). This makes her one-of-a-kind, and exceptionally comfortable for a couple. One hull of the boat devoted entirely to the owners. All four cabins feature an ensuite head which makes cruising with friends or family easy for larger groups. Both starboard queen guest cabins with ensuites remain in their standard configuration. Each cabin features hanging lockers, ample light and ventilation.
The enormous cockpit is the ultimate outdoor living area and can cater for the largest of sundowner groups as well as being a great all-round lounging space for the family. A feature of the Leopard 46 is the great connectivity between the helm station, the cockpit and the saloon, allowing all of the family to enjoy and share the cruising life.
